Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara played host to the valedictory function of weeklong self defense camp organized by Mahila Shakti Sangathan under the guidance of SDM Ms. Jyoti Bala Mattu. The function was organized in association with the NSS and NCC wings of the college. ADC Ms. Babita Kaler was the chief guest of the function, ADCP Jalandhar D. Sudarvizhi was the star guest and Mrs. Joginder Kaur was the special guest.

During the camp, 40 students from 12 college of Phagwara were trained in self defense by special trainers. These 40 students will now visit various schools and provide training to girls so that they can learn self defense and hence be able to take care of themselves in adverse situations.The participants also gave a demonstration of the self defense techniques they have learnt during today’s function. While speaking on the occasion, SDM Ms. Jyoti Bala motivated the girls to understand their strengths and become aware and confident.

IPS D. Sudarvizhi talked about rising crime and violence against women. While appreciating this initiative of Mahila Shakti Sangathan, ADC Ms. Babita Kaler encouraged the girls to be bold and strong for self defense. College Principal Dr. Kiran Walia welcomed the guests and thanked SDM this wonderful initiative. On the occasion, the entire team of Mahila Shakti Sangathan and Principal, Staff and students of various educational institutions of Phagwara were present on the occasion.
