Menstruation hygiene awareness initiative held at KNCW

With the aim of creating awareness about menstruation hygiene, ‘It’s time to talk’, was organized at Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara on Monday, February 26, 2018. The initiative was organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the college during a special assembly.

The purpose of the event was to talk about menstruation and break the taboo associated with it. Principal of the college Dr. Kiran Walia was the chief guest at the event. Speaking on the occasion, she stressed on the need to talk about this issue and highlighted that there is dire need to break the stigma associated with these five days. She also congratulated JMC department for taking up this cause and bringing it in front of the college. During the event, documentary film prepared by JMC department on the issue was screened. Later a documentary film presenting the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the inspiration behind the film Pad Man was also screened.

Dr. Diana Handa from the Department of Sciences of the college gave a presentation on this topic. In her talk, she detailed about the various points that every girl need to follow during these five days to make sure that she remains healthy. On the occasion, a sanitary napkin donation campaign was also organized by JMC department. Post the donation, a pad bank has been made in the college for the needy students.
