A four-day event dedicated to International Mother Language Day was organized by the Amrita Pritam Literary Society (Department of Punjabi) under the able leadership of Principal Dr. Savinder Pal at Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara.

On the first day of the event, Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal attended as a special guest to deliver a lecture on the importance of the mother tongue and the present status of the Punjabi language. He was welcomed with a planter as a token of respect by Principal Dr. Savinder Pal, Head of the Department Dr. Ruminder Kaur, and the entire Punjabi Department.

Prof. Harjinder Singh formally introduced Dr. Johal and stated that he is a well-known poet and has retired from a senior position at Doordarshan. He is associated with many institutions and continues to contribute to the academic field through his writings.

During his lecture, Dr. Johal provided detailed information about the origin and significance of International Mother Language Day. Discussing the present condition of Punjabi as a mother tongue, he compared Punjabi with other languages and presented statistical data highlighting its recognition at the international level. Around 100 students enthusiastically participated in the event. Dr. Lalit from the Department of Music also attended the program. He praised Dr. Johal and mentioned that he used to watch his program on Jalandhar Doordarshan with great interest.

Principal Dr. Savinder Pal expressed gratitude to Dr. Johal and said that he has been serving the Punjabi mother tongue for a long time. She emphasized that students need to learn from such personalities who are making valuable contributions to the promotion and expansion of Punjabi. She also appreciated the entire team of the Punjabi Department for the successful organisation of the event.
