Rain could not dampen the spirit of sports enthusiasts as Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara celebrated its annual sports meet with huge pomp and show on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at college stadium.

Principal of the college, Dr. Kiran Walia was the chief guest of the day and declared the meet open. The day saw students and staff of the institute participate enthusiastically in various events held during the meet. The events for students included 100 metre race, Skipping, Sack Race, Spoon and Lemon Race, Fast Walking, Matka Race, Tug of War, Shuttle Race, Three Leg race, Peacock Race and Relay Race. The staff of the college competed in the events of Brick Race and Spoon and Lemon Race. The event of Volleyball was the star attraction of the day as the event saw competition among the staff and the students in which staff lifted the champion’s trophy.

College boxer Preeti, who bagged gold medal in the All India Inter University Boxing Championship, was declared the Best Player of the year, while Sumandeep Kaur was declared the Best Athlete during the meet. The overall trophy was bagged by MC Mary Kom house, while Sania Mirza house secured second position and PT Usha house stood third. NCC cadets Jyoti Punia and Gurpreet Kaur were also honoured at the event.

The event was organized by the Physical Education department of the college which includes Sardar Jasvir Singh, Prof. Kanchan and Prof. Priya. Prof. Naval Kishore Dogra, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Prof. Harvinder Chauhan and Prof. Satbir Singh acted as the judges during the event.
