Under the able guidance of College Principal, Dr. Savinder Pal, the English Literary Society of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, organised a highly informative and interactive extension lecture on ‘The Art of Public Speaking: Techniques and Challenges’ on 19th March, 2025. The event was graced by Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Head of the Department of English at S.N. College, Banga, who was the esteemed resource person for the event. The lecture commenced with a warm welcome of the resource person by Madam Principal, Dr. Savinder Pal, who presented Dr. Rajesh with a sapling as a token of appreciation for his presence. Dr. Rajesh talked at length about the art of public speaking and its importance in one’s personal and professional life. He elaborated on the various techniques that can help individuals become effective public speakers, stressing the importance of clarity, confidence, and audience engagement. Furthermore, he addressed the common challenges faced by speakers, such as overcoming nervousness and handling unexpected situations during a speech. He quoted several famous figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Aristotle, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, highlighting how their exemplary use of words and oratory skills helped them in achieving their goals. By referring to these personalities, he illustrated how public speaking is not just a tool for communication but a powerful means of influencing change and inspiring others. Around 100 students of the college attended this informative session. Madam Principal appreciated the efforts put in by the organising team for organising such an informative session.
