Under the leadership of Principal Dr. Savinder Pal, the Red ribbon club, Department of Science and Prof. Puran Singh Society of Kamla Nehru College for women, Phagwara celebrated National Science Day on 25th February 2026, under the theme of “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat,” marking the occasion with a series of vibrant academic and creative activities.
The extension lecture was given by Dr. Rajeev Kumar (Assistant Professor) Division of Research Connect, Lovely Professional University which delved into the vital role of women in driving national progress, drawing inspiration from trailblazing figures such as former Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan, Mangalyaan Mission Deputy Operations Director Dr. Ritu Karidhal, and renowned environmental activist Dr. Vandana Shiva, who is celebrated for her advocacy in biodiversity and seed sovereignty. Highlighting the college’s own legacy of excellence, the speaker praised alumni Manjot Kaur and Sukirti Sharma for their prolific work in writing review papers, citing them as shining examples of women empowerment and academic dedication. This session is attended by around 100 students.

The celebration further flourished through competitive events, including the “Science in Canvas” competition where 13 students showcased their talent; Manraj Kaur Malhi (B.Sc. Non-Med Sem 4) secured the first prize, followed by Kamaljit Kaur (B.Sc. Non-Med Sem 6) in second, Amanpreet Kaur (B.Sc. Comp. Sci. Sem 6) in third, and consolation prizes awarded to Daya and Palak (B.Sc. Comp. Sci. Sem 2). In the “Herb of Health” plantation activity, 7 students demonstrated their botanical knowledge, with Amanpreet Kaur (B.Sc. Comp. Sci. Sem 6) clinching the first position, Kashish (B.Sc. Med Sem 4) securing second, and Kamaljit Kaur (B.Sc. Non-Med Sem 6) taking third.

Principal Dr. Savinder Pal warmly congratulated all the winners and participants, motivating the students by guiding them to follow the “3 Es”—Empower, Educate, and Encourage—as their guiding principles for future success.
