The NSS Unit of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara paid heartfelt tribute to the great martyrs Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar on the occasion of their martyrdom day, observed on 23rd March 2026, with deep reverence and patriotic fervor.

To commemorate the occasion, a Poster Making Competition was organized, witnessing enthusiastic participation from around 50 students. The event aimed to instill a spirit of patriotism, creativity, and social responsibility among the youth.

An awareness rally was also conducted, during which students raised impactful slogans such as “नशा छोड़ो, जीवन जोड़ो”, spreading a strong message against drug abuse and promoting a healthy, disciplined, and responsible lifestyle.

Director Academics, Dr. Savinder Pal, and Officiating Principal, Dr. Ruminder Kaur, addressed the gathering and highlighted the historical significance of the day. They emphasized the invaluable sacrifices made by the martyrs for the nation’s freedom and inspired students to uphold the values of courage, integrity, and service to society.

They also appreciated the dedicated efforts of the NSS Programme Officers, Ms. Nidhi Jassal and Dr. Tavisha, for the successful organization of the event.
A Tribute to National Martyrs
“Saheed Bhagat Singh Society “,Department of History of Kamla Nehru College for women, Phagwara solemnized the Martyrdom Day (Shaheed Diwas) of the legendary revolutionaries Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, honoring their ultimate sacrifice for the country’s independence. The seminar was organized under the guidance of Officiating Principal Dr. Ruminder Kaur and Director Academics,Dr. Savinder Pal emphasizing the need to keep the flame of patriotism alive among the youth.
About 50 students participated in the event, which was marked by a series of emotional and inspiring tributes. Students paid homage through deeply moving poems and patriotic songs, celebrating the irrepressible revolutionary spirit of the three national martyrs who were hanged on this day in 1931.
Dr. Kamlesh, Head of the Department of History, presented a detailed perspective on the ideological depth of Bhagat Singh. She emphasized that understanding Bhagat Singh goes beyond his sacrifice; it involves embracing his ideology of equality, secularism, and a society free from exploitation.
Addressing the audience,Officiating Principal Dr. Ruminder Kaur called upon the students to commemorate the day with true zeal and zest. She lauded the efforts of the History department for organizing a meaningful event that connects modern students with the historical sacrifices that paved the way for India’s freedom. She urged the participants to embody the values of courage and selfless service in their daily lives.
The event concluded with a moments silence to pay respect to the martyrs and a pledge to serve the nation with dedication. “
