Eco Club Explores Innovations in Citrus Farming
The Eco Club of Kamla Nehru College for Women organized an enriching educational visit to the Centre of Excellence for Fruits (Citrus) on April 09,2026, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable horticulture. Nodal Officers Dr. Priyanka Aeri and Isha Bhardwaj, a group of 31 students explored the expansive citrus orchards to gain practical insights into biodiversity and modern agricultural techniques. The visit served as a vital link between academic theory and field application, allowing students to witness firsthand how scientific innovation drives environmental stewardship.
During the immersive session, students were given a detailed demonstration of professional budding techniques by Mr. Harvinder Singh, guide of citrus farm, observing the precision required to graft plants for better yield and disease resistance. The technical tour also covered the efficiency of the dripping method (drip irrigation), where students learned about water conservation and the specialized machinery used to maintain large-scale orchards.
The initiative was met with high praise from the college leadership, with Director Academics Dr. Savinder Pal and Dr Ruminder, officiating Principal . They further encouraged the participants, highlighting the importance of such experiential learning in shaping environmentally conscious citizens.
